The vision of VIOMERSE is to create a safer surgical environment for patients through innovations in simulation and technology. In order to move the majority of surgical training outside of the live operating room, VIOMERSE invented and developed two technologies that permit the acquisition of surgical skills through guided practice.
VIOMERSE designed high-fidelity, full procedural physical phantoms to provide a hands-on learning experience unparalleled on the market. While this necessary element provides the muscle memory and permits the development of delicate technical maneuvers, the surgical training model alone cannot deliver procedural knowledge and safe surgical skills.
The second technology that VIOMERSE developed to overcome this educational gap is to enable the presence of a supervising physician (proctor) through Augmented Reality, supplemented with a computer-based curriculum that is provided during the procedure. The Company recognized that the time demands of proctors, the recent restrictions for travel instituted during the pandemic and the large volume of procedures which require training; make the in-person teaching approach impractical, costly, and inefficient. Our solution not only guides the user how to perform the procedure, but also corrects errors during the simulation and can record and report performance metrics. The combination of physical phantoms integrated with the remote training platform has the potential to dramatically decrease unnecessary risk to the patient; this cutting-edge paradigm is the future of surgical education, an innovation that can lead to broad improvement in healthcare and medical education.
