VioVision

Training and Educating Surgeons Remotely

Through Extended Reality and Artificial Intelligence

The Remote Training Platform created by VIOMERSE (VioVision™) enables a student or a group of students to receive hands-on instruction from a proctor teaching from a remote location. The initial release of this technology is intended to train students on realistic anatomical models (phantoms) where both proctor and student practice on the same phantom and medical device. The platform uses teleconferencing software and extended reality (XR) hardware to connect the student with the proctor to simulate an in-person training environment.

VIOMERSE sought to develop VioVision™ during the Covid pandemic when clinician travel to meetings to participate in hands-on-training workshops was not possible. The Company leveraged its greater than 60 years’ experience in hands-on training and innovative medical device and technical expertise to develop VioVision™.

VioVision™ is an affordable complete system for remote surgical training with four key components:

  • Extended reality headset

  • Laptop

  • Device media hub

  • Teleconferencing software

The System travels easily using the above listed equipment along with cables and connectors readily allowing plug-and-play to a wide array of live medical-imaging including ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and digital camera devices.

“The platform is intuitive, robust, and allows us to work seamlessly with physicians remotely, without requiring our team to be on-site. This has significantly reduced the time, cost, and logistical burden associated with training. Most importantly, it has accelerated our product adoption and improved physician confidence in using our system.”

“It is also possible to interact with residents more precisely. Let’s say there’s a tumor I want to tell the student to cut here or move there. But no one knows where “here” is.” Now student surgeons can see live annotations (arrows, circles around the area in question) directly in their headsets.”
